Hat Silks

A hat silk is a fitted fabric cover worn over a jockey skull, most commonly for competition. Silks serve a practical purpose as well as an aesthetic one, protecting the outer shell of the helmet from surface wear and making it straightforward to present a coordinated, smart appearance in the ring.

Silks are available in a wide range of colours and finishes, from plain competition colours through to patterned and embroidered designs. Many riders keep several silks to match different competition kits or to suit different disciplines throughout the season.

Fit and Compatibility

Most hat silks are made from four-way stretch fabric, which allows them to fit over a range of helmet sizes and shapes. Some silks are designed specifically for certain helmet models, so it is worth checking compatibility before purchasing, particularly for helmets with unusual profiles or larger sizes.

Vented and Standard Silks

Silks are available in both standard and vented versions. Vented silks feature a mesh panel that allows airflow through to the helmet, which can make a noticeable difference in comfort during warmer conditions or intense activity. Standard silks offer a smoother, more traditional appearance that is often preferred for showing and formal competition.

Replacement Liners

The inner liner of a riding helmet absorbs sweat and is in direct contact with the skin, meaning it can deteriorate with regular use. Replacing the liner is a cost-effective way to restore comfort and hygiene without replacing the helmet itself.

Replacement liners are sized to fit specific helmet models, so checking compatibility with your helmet before ordering is important.
