Choosing the Right Shooting Boot

The key decision in choosing a shooting boot is between a wellington-style boot and a lace-up field boot. Wellington-style boots are warmer and more waterproof in deep water and mud, and are the traditional choice for formal driven shooting days. Lace-up field boots provide more ankle support and a more agile feel underfoot, making them better suited to walked-up and rough shooting where active movement is required. Insulation level is a further consideration: a well-insulated boot is essential for standing on a peg in cold conditions, but can become uncomfortable on an active walked-up day where body heat is generated through movement.
