Our day at Badminton Horse Trials 2022

A fantastic day consisting of course walks, dressage, good food and amazing weather

IT'S BACK! And better than ever...Badminton Horse Trials for 2022. We headed over on Thursday for the day - meeting up with one competitor, watching the dressage, and of course making our way around the shopping village.

 

Country & Equestrian Style

Of course, one of the most talked-about topics of Badminton...the outfits!

Becky decided to go for a country-themed outfit. Wearing the Bayview gilet and Pheasant printed shirt from Dubarry, paired with skinny jeans, and Aurora short boots from Mountain Horse - super comfortable throughout the 25,000 steps we ended up walking! The weather was splendid, with clear skies and reaching 21 Degrees - although long sleeve, Becky admits the shirt was very light to wear. These products are versatile, and I think you'll agree this outfit looks great!

 

Elyse chooses an equestrian-themed outfit. Wearing the Marylin Flex breeches from Mountain Horse, Ariat sleeveless polo from their new SS22 collection, and a pair of the new Ignite Eco trainers in the classic navy/red colorway - doesn't it look fabulous! Not only a practical footwear choice but with the weather, a sensible decision to go for the sleeveless polo. We agree that this outfit proves equestrian fashion looks great around, and outside of the yard!

Course Walk with Alex Bragg

We were lucky to be invited by Equilibrium Products to walk the Cross Country course with GB competitor, Alex Bragg. Also one of the prizes won in their Golden Ticket giveaway! Extremely informative, Alex talked us through, step-by-step how he approaches a jump, his strategies behind the line he plans to ride, and the technicalities when riding a complex course such as this. Touching on how the shade and sunlight through the trees can truly affect the horse and rider's performance on the day.

It was fantastic to see the course in person, especially after missing the competition for 2 years - it looked better than ever!

We were, unfortunately, gutted to see Alex experience a fall and resulting in an elimination - however, it was great to see such fantastic riding and horsemanship from Alex.

                                           

Dressage

What a gorgeous day it turned out to be for the competitors - sun shining and clear skies!

Watching one of the sessions of Dressage on Thursday was exceptionally impressive. We were lucky enough to witness Tom McEwen's stunning test. He finished on the leaderboard Thursday but was overtaken by Laura Collet's almost-perfect test on Friday - however, they still had a great score to start their Badminton journey. It truly puts insight into how amazing this sport is and makes you appreciate both rider and horse as athletes.
